ICCO Cooperation

Expertise:

ICCO Cooperation is an international organization, whose mission is to end poverty and injustice in the global south, in partnership with enterprising people. Our headquarters is based in the Netherlands with 5 regional and multiple country offices in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. We also have an office in the USA. ICCO has a track record of more than 50 years. We focus on 4 programmatic areas: economic empowerment, food security and sustainable consumption, responsible business and emergency aid. We believe that long-term success can be achieved through programs and investments carried out by enterprising people and organizations. We have put our non-profit and commercial entities under one umbrella and bring stakeholders together, benefiting from the strengths of each. In public-private partnerships, ICCO can take up the role of co-financer, co-entrepreneur, co-implementer, and lobbyist.

Project Role:

ICCO will guide and support the consortium in implementing the program, financial management and compliance with NSO criteria.


Economic Research Institute of Posts and Telecommunications (ERIPT/PTIT)

Expertise:

The Economic Research Institute of Posts and Telecommunications (ERIPT) is a research business unit founded by Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) in 1975. PTIT is a public university in Vietnam, under the supervision of the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam (MIC). ERIPT applies research, training, manufacturing and trading principles to accomplish its fundamental functions: 1) education, training and 2) scientific research, consultancy, technology transfer in the fields of posts, telecommunications and information technology. ERIPT has over 30 years of experience in the field of scientific research. ERIPT-PTIT has cooperated with partners to provide mobile services, value-added services, ecommerce services and education. Vinaphone, Viettel and Mobiphone all belong to the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) facilitates cooperation of partners for this project.

Project Role:

ERIPT has a strong based in agriculture information service delivery to introduce the GREENcoffee service to farmers and other clients. They also have hardware expertise in hosting data and have been assigned by the Vietnamese government to implement the Green ICT policy for agriculture development. They will be the host and eventual owners of this information service.


Nelen & Schuurman (N&S)

Expertise:

Established in 1998, Nelen & Schuurman (N&S) is a consulting company offering creative solutions for water management issues. Innovation, knowledge development and the clients’ needs are key values for the company. N&S provide consultancy for water management issues in urban and rural areas and they develop information products that give managers insight into the performance of their water system(s).

Project Role:

N&S will guide the consortium in providing functionality to collect data from several sources and the data into new useful information for SMS and mobile phone applications via their Lizard platform. The Lizard platform can combine complex water related data, process and present it.


Akvo

Expertise:

Akvo is a non-profit foundation formally incorporated in September 2008 with its Head Office in the Netherlands. It operates under the principle not for profit – not for loss. Akvo develops and runs web and mobile services. It provides software as a service, backed by a global partner-support and training team. Akvo tools bring international development work online through open sources in areas such as water, sanitation, health, education, agriculture, conservation and economic development. Akvo tools for knowledge sharing, reporting and field based (offline) monitoring with smartphones are used across the globe in 37 countries from national and organisational levels. In Vietnam, Akvo has conducted a baseline training session for local partners on how to use mobile tools for better data collection and decision making.

Project Role:

The AkvoFlow tool will support the consortium in field data collection from farmers and for M&E purposes.


WaterWatch Projects BV. (WWP)

Expertise:

WaterWatch Projects BV (WWP) is a private company under the umbrella of the WaterWatchCooperative. The mission is to provide all stakeholders in food-production with timely and accurate information technologies to achieve sustainable increase of land and water productivity contributing to improved global food security. They envision achieving the creation of the Global Vegetation Database 3.0, which will provide a basic infrastructure to enable seamless integration and exchange of information worldwide on food production, while allowing local analysis and adequate decision-making and monitoring within the food production chain. The main expertise and competences of WWP are complex service integration for agricultural purposes.

Project Role:

WWC is a work package coordinator on service provision that brings users’ needs and technical capacity together to build a meaningful information system for coffee farmers and supporting business in Vietnam.


eLEAF BV.

Expertise:

eLEAF BV was founded by WaterWatch BV in 2000 and was renamed eLEAF because of a merger of two companies in 2012. Its mission is to be the global reference in supply of reliable satellite based crop monitoring data on any land surface to support sustainable water use, increase food production and protect environmental systems. eLEAF is the developer and owner of a set of algorithms that transform meteorological and remote sensing based data into quantitative crop, water and climate parameters in pixel (Pixel Intelligence Mapping – PiMapping). eLEAF’s data is targeted at entire agri-business value chains raining from farmers to food processors as well as non-profit organisations, public institutions and (national) governments.

Project Role:

eLEAF provides services based on Earth observation data, processing raw satellite data into reliable data on water and vegetation on any land surface, which will be integrated into the Lizard system of N&S.


UTZ

Expertise:

UTZ Foundation is a Dutch civil society organisation established in 2002 and headquartered in the Netherlands. UTZ stands for sustainable farming and better opportunities for farmers, their families and our planet. UTZ enables farmers to learn better farming methods, improve working conditions and take better care of their children and the environment. Their program enables farmers to become entrepreneurs (Field Development), make the improvements visible (Certification), connect parties in a transparent chain (Traceability) and tells the story & creates demand (Market Development). UTZ has extensive experience in the global coffee sector and works in 23 coffee producing countries across Asia, Latin America and Africa. In Vietnam, UTZ works, both directly and through local partners, with major coffee traders, has direct links with coffee related government departments, and has over 38,700 registered UTZ Certified coffee farmers covering 55,600 ha. UTZ has been active in Vietnam since 2004 and is locally registered.

Project Role:

Their strong base in farming communities and their knowledge about coffee farm management and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) is important for introducing the GREENcoffee services to farmers, providing training on GAP and monitoring the effects of the services.


National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection (NIAPP)

Expertise:

The National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection (NIAPP) is a public service agency under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and was founded in 1961. It is responsible for surveying, investigating, planning and projection, technology transferring, and advising on agriculture and rural development over the whole country. NIAPP has strong collaboration with country-wide Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) over 63 provinces.

Project Role:

NIAPP will assist and support the consortium on behalf of the Vietnamese government in developing information services based on geodata.


Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD)

Expertise:

The Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD) is a public service agency under the Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and was founded in 2005. It is responsible for doing research and consultation subjects in agriculture and rural development. The Institute has a wide partnership network with research institutes, universities, development organizations in the world, to implement research in various fields: strategy and policy in agriculture restructuring, rural development, Small-Medium Enterprise (SME) support, agricultural value chain analysis, market information and analysis, poverty alleviation, institutional reform, natural resource management and climate change.

Project Role:

IPSARD will assist and support the GREENcoffee project in: developing information services based on geodata, collecting and providing coffee prices, analysing and providing coffee disease situations and participating in the process of evaluation and supervision.
